Austrian Pine
Though this European native is no longer recommended due to a lengthy list of pests it can obtain, this particular individual is doing quite well. This is a classic case of tree competition as it bends accordingly to find the sun – a process called phototropism. This tree has proven its resilience due to the compacted soils surrounding the heavily trafficked Sons of Rest Shelter as well as its damaged bark caused by those attempting to climb its bowed trunk.
