The West Gate and accompanying gatehouse is the only example of Gothic Revival Style in the Park. The Gate was built in 1870-1872 and enlarged to its present state in 1879-1880. These two structures are well-preserved examples of the picturesque design favored by British and American landscape architects in the nineteenth century.
