Chestnut Oak
This is one of those trees that can really make you appreciate Tower Grove Park. Clearly the king of the hill and sitting at the highest point of the park, this oak is wider than it is tall. Its stately structure of gigantic, over-extended branches is a fantastic example of a tree’s strength and ability to battle gravity and other forces working against it. The chestnut oak has been named as such due to it’s dark, deeply furrowed bark which resembles the American chestnut.
