White Fir
The white fir is native to the western North American mountains, ranging from southern Idaho into Mexico and is typically found in elevations greater than 3,000 feet. This tree is extremely difficult to grow in St. Louis as it requires rather strict soil conditions. There is something to be said about the soils of Tower Grove Park considering this tree’s success is unimpeded. The long, blue needles accompanied by a flawless pyramidal shape produce quite the display.
